Two things follow from this table. First, the bands shift down with age, so a 55-year-old at 30 is in a completely different position than a 25-year-old at 30. Second, the spread inside each band is wide, and the difference between "Low" and "Below Average" is often two or three points - well inside the estimate's own margin of error.

The Five Setup Mistakes That Fake a Low Score
Run this list before you conclude anything about your fitness. In practice this is where most of the shock readings come from.
1. You walk with your hands occupied. A stroller, a dog leash, shopping bags, trekking poles, hands in pockets. The watch reads arm swing to estimate pace and effort. Kill the arm swing and it misjudges how much work you're doing, almost always downward.

4. You mostly train indoors. Peloton, treadmill, rower, gym floor, indoor cycling - none of it counts. Your estimate may be months old, from a period when you were less fit.
5. Your walks are too easy or too short. The estimate wants sustained, uninterrupted effort. Stop-start city walks with traffic lights every 90 seconds give it very little to work with. Apple's own guidance is that it takes at least 24 hours of wear plus several outdoor workouts to produce an initial estimate.
There's a sixth case that runs the other direction: beta blockers and other heart-rate-limiting medication cause the estimate to read too high, because a suppressed heart rate looks like efficiency. Apple explicitly says so. You can flag those in the Health app.
