Welltory Review 2026: Is It Free & Worth It?

Welltory is one of the longest-running heart rate variability (HRV) apps. It turns a short heart measurement into scores for stress, energy and overall health, and it connects to more than 1,000 devices and apps. It is also popular: the iPhone app has 4.7 stars from about 134,000 US ratings.
Most people who search for Welltory want to know three things: whether it is really free, what Premium costs, and whether the paid version is worth it. This review answers all three, explains how the measurements work, and covers who would be better served by a different app.
Features and prices were checked against Welltory's App Store listing, pricing page and help center on September 29, 2026.
Quick verdict
- Welltory is worth trying if you want deep HRV reports, blood pressure analysis, or an HRV check with just your phone's camera.
- The free version is a preview, not the full app. One measurement a day, 5 of the 21 metrics, and your data is deleted after 30 days.
- Premium is the real product. Daily Health, Battery and Stress tracking and the full reports are paid.
- Look elsewhere if you wear an Apple Watch and just want your recovery, stress and sleep scored automatically every morning without taking measurements.
What is Welltory?
Welltory is a health app built around heart rate variability, the small changes in time between heartbeats that reflect how stressed or recovered your nervous system is. It gives you:
- Stress, energy and health scores from each HRV measurement
- A Battery score for how much energy you have left in the day
- Sleep, activity and workout reports
- Blood pressure logging and analysis, with reports you can share with a doctor
- Integrations with 1,000+ devices and apps, including Apple Health, Oura, Garmin, Fitbit and Samsung
How Welltory measures HRV
There are two ways to feed Welltory data:
- The phone camera. You rest a fingertip over the camera and flash for a short measurement. The app reads your pulse from tiny color changes in your skin. This is Welltory's signature feature: an HRV check with no wearable at all.
- A wearable. Welltory reads heart rate and HRV data from a connected watch, ring or band, including the Apple Watch.
The camera method is clever, but it is a spot check. A measurement taken at the same time every morning is useful. One taken at a random moment after coffee is not. Wearable data collected automatically overnight is usually a steadier signal for day-to-day recovery.
How to get a reliable camera reading
A camera measurement is only as good as the conditions you take it in. To make readings comparable from day to day:
- Measure at the same time every day, ideally right after waking and before coffee.
- Sit or lie still for a minute first, and breathe normally.
- Rest your fingertip lightly over the camera and flash. Pressing hard changes the blood flow the camera reads.
- Stay still and quiet until the measurement finishes. Talking or moving your hand spoils it.
- Repeat it if the app flags a poor-quality reading, rather than keeping it.
Is Welltory free?
Welltory is free to download, but the free version is limited:
| Free | Premium | |
|---|---|---|
| HRV measurements | 1 per day | Unlimited |
| Metrics per measurement | 5 basic metrics | Full set of 21 |
| Daily Health, Battery and Stress tracking | ❌ | ✅ |
| Sleep, activity and workout reports | Simplified | Full, personalized |
| Blood pressure analysis | Simplified | Full, with extra metrics and shareable reports |
| History | Data older than 30 days is deleted | Full history kept |
The 30-day deletion is the part to notice. Tracking stress or HRV is mostly about trends over months, and on the free plan those months disappear.
How much does Welltory cost?
Welltory's prices depend on where you pay and which plan you pick. As of September 2026:
- US App Store: plans from $12.99 per month, yearly plans between $79.99 and $119.99, and $299.99 for lifetime Premium.
- Welltory website (Europe): €89 per year or €529 lifetime.
- Free trial: 3 days of full Premium insights for new users.
Check the paywall in the app for the exact offer in your country before subscribing, and cancel through the store you paid with (App Store or Google Play).
Which Welltory plan is cheapest over time?
Using the US App Store prices above:
| Plan | Cost per year | Cost over 3 years |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly ($12.99) | About $156 | About $468 |
| Yearly (cheapest offer, $79.99) | $79.99 | About $240 |
| Yearly (highest offer, $119.99) | $119.99 | About $360 |
| Lifetime ($299.99) | One payment | $299.99 |
Monthly only makes sense for a short trial. If you are sure you will use Welltory for more than about three years, lifetime beats even the cheapest yearly plan. For a shorter horizon, take the cheapest yearly offer the app shows you.
What Welltory does well
- HRV without a wearable. The camera measurement is genuinely useful if you do not own a smartwatch.
- Depth. 21 metrics per measurement, blood pressure analysis and doctor-friendly reports go further than most wellness apps.
- Connects to almost everything. 1,000+ integrations, on both iPhone and Android.
Where Welltory falls short
- The free version is thin. One measurement a day and a 30-day memory make it hard to see real trends without paying.
- Manual measurements take discipline. The camera method only works if you measure at a consistent time, every day.
- Lots of metrics, less clarity. Twenty-one scores per measurement can be more than you need to answer the simple question: should I push today or rest?
- Nothing for body changes. Welltory does not track calories, body measurements or progress photos.
A free alternative for Apple Watch owners: Bodly
If you wear an Apple Watch, you may not need to take measurements at all. Your watch already records HRV and resting heart rate overnight. Bodly reads that data from Apple Health and scores it automatically every morning, and it adds the body-tracking side Welltory does not cover.
| Welltory | Bodly | |
|---|---|---|
| How HRV is collected | Camera spot check or wearable | Automatically from your Apple Watch overnight |
| Daily recovery / stress scores | Premium | Free |
| Energy score | Battery (Premium) | Energy (free) |
| Sleep score | Simplified free, full on Premium | Free, with sleep bank |
| Blood pressure analysis | Yes | No |
| Calorie tracking | No | AI photo scanning, text and barcode |
| Weight, measurements and progress photos | No | Yes |
| History on the free plan | Deleted after 30 days | Last 30 days visible (Pro unlocks all) |
| Android | Yes | No, iPhone only |
Who should use Welltory?
Choose Welltory if:
- you do not own a smartwatch and want HRV readings with just your phone
- you want blood pressure analysis and reports to share with your doctor
- you use Android, or a wearable other than an Apple Watch
- you enjoy detailed metrics and will pay for Premium
Choose something else if:
- you wear an Apple Watch and want scores without taking daily measurements
- you want your full history without a subscription
- you also want to track calories, weight, body measurements or progress photos
Bottom line
Welltory is a capable HRV app with real depth, and its camera measurement is a smart way in for people without a wearable. But the free version is mostly a preview: one measurement a day, 5 of 21 metrics and a 30-day memory. If you commit to Premium and measure consistently, it is worth it.
If you already wear an Apple Watch, the simplest option is an app that scores the data your watch already collects. Bodly does that for free, and adds calories, weight, measurements and progress photos on top.
